Medium: Forest of Dean Grey Sandstone & Electroluminescent wire.

The sculpture at Mid Wales Art Centre is the first work exhibited since completing his apprenticeship, and is an introspective look at the driving influences of the artist:
Cut by the artist from a twenty ton quarry block, this stone was used for its similarities in colour and texture to concrete, allowing for a duality in appearance. One face, a surface transformed over millennia. The other face, a representation of our ability to bend nature to our wills , and harness its potential.

Exhibiting at Maesmawr Scupture Exhibition throughout 2013

Bio: Rhys studied Interactive Art at UWCN, before training for five years as a conservation stone mason. My current work stems from an interest in the potential for seemingly inanimate objects to display sentient properties.
As both a Technological artist and sculptor, I am fascinated by this discordant relationship between technology and the natural environment.
